RIA NOVOSTI;

China launched a high-resolution remote-sensing satellite on Monday, Xinhua reported.

The Ziyuan III satellite was launched from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in the northern Shanxi province aboard a Long March 4B rocket.

The 2,650-kg satellite entered an orbit of 500 km above the Earth about 12 minutes after launch.

The satellite, with a life span of five years, is to facilitate national land surveys, natural-disaster prevention, agriculture development, water-resources management, and urban planning.

The rocket also carried a satellite from Luxemburg, according to the launch center.
